3 Ways to Backup Your Computer's Registry
Before making any changes to you computer it is highly recommended that you backup your registry files. Failing to do so can result in the loss of valuable files that can't be retrieved. There's 3 ways that you can begin to backup your files: System Restore, Registry Editor, and a third part Registry Cleaner Software. System Restore You can backup you systems registry by using the System Restore. This is a built in recovery tool in Windows that allows you to create restore points, which is basically a snapshot of your registry in case you've made an error installing a program or if you're experiencing problems with your computer. The System Restore feature allows you to simply revert back to a previous state or "last know good configuration." Here's how: 1.) Select Start 2.) Point to ==> All Programs 3.) Point to ==> Accessories 4.) Point to ==> System Tools 5.) Select System Restore And simply follow the on screen instructions in the dialogue box Registry Editor This is the more direct way of backing up your registry, which can be intimidating for the non-techies, but is generally easy. Here's how: 1.) Select Start 2.) Select Run 3.) Type in Regedit and press the enter key From here you will be taken to a two pane window. Select File on the menu bar, then select Export...find a location that you desire to store your registry backup files and you're simply done. Registry Cleaner Software If you're one of the non-techie types or just simply want to automate things, then a third party registry cleaner software is for you. There are tons of registry cleaners on the market that will perform different maintenance activities for you such as: backing up and restoring, and repairing your registry.
