The Same Futon Cover For Over Five Years - It's Time For a Change
Futon covers come in a variety of different fabric and colors and really do a great job of creating the overall look of your futon. If you've ever been out shopping for a futon and noticed the bright, vivid colors of the display cover, you'll find this is what drew you to take another look. Your futon cover should be no different. In this article we'll discuss futon covers and how they really benefit from some good planning. The first thing when getting ready to shop for a futon cover is figuring out exactly what size futon mattress you have. Measuring the length and width of the mattress you'll come up with any number of measurements. If it's a full size it will measure close to 54" x 75". If it's a queen size it will measure 60" x 80". You might even have a twin size futon mattress which would be 39" x 75". Once you know this you can move onto the next step. The depth of your mattress or thickness can vary from the terminology used by the mattress manufacturer. Some do a measurement of the materials pre-compressed or some will measure the mattress fully compressed. In the interests of a futon cover we will measure the mattress fully compressed. The easiest thing to do is place something beneath a mattress and above the mattress so you can measure between these two to get as accurate a measurement as possible. Most standard futon mattresses come in anywhere from 6" to 8". If it's anything different than this you'll need to order a special corner to fit your mattress. Finally you'll need to decide if you want a solid color or print color. These will be available many different ways and in many different fabrics. Some are machine washable while others are dry clean only. You'll have to decide which is best for your needs. The fabric content has a lot to do with how your cover can be cleaned as well. While there are quite a few machine washable covers, there are also many dry clean or solvent clean only covers. Your futon cover retailer will be able to tell you. So in summary, shopping for a futon cover can be easy if you know what you're looking for. Measure your mattress and figure out the size and depth of the mattress. Determine what kind of pattern or solid you want. See if you want to concentrate on machine washable covers or if you'd prefer dry clean or solvent cleaned covers.
